The legal process that will enable unmanned aerial vehicles to take an active role in logistics and cargo operations in Turkish airspace has been completed. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Uraloğlu announced that the legal infrastructure of special UAV corridors called "drone highway" has been prepared and that digital routes will be drawn in the sky. With the development, it is aimed for autonomous aerial vehicles to make safe shipments over certain lines without getting stuck in land traffic.
Digital Routes and Flight Rules in the Sky
The new structure, shaped in line with the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Systems Instruction (SHT-UHA) published by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (SHGM) on July 30, 2026, formalizes long-range flights that go beyond the line of sight. Thanks to the coordination carried out by DGCA with the relevant institutions, the entry and exit points, maximum capacities, navigation directions and safe distance criteria between the virtual roads to be created in the air will be determined entirely through digital systems. The designated air corridors will both ensure airspace safety and eliminate possible risks by preventing devices from flying uncontrolled.
New Era in Logistics and Urban Transportation Dynamics
The air corridors created will noticeably alleviate the congestion on road networks, especially in e-commerce and cargo transportation. Transportation of many products, from medical supplies requiring urgent delivery to daily retail shipments, with autonomous aircraft will significantly reduce delivery times and operational costs. The infrastructure, which eliminates time losses caused by urban traffic, will provide a more punctual delivery experience for end users and will also increase the commercial mobility of the domestic aviation and logistics technologies ecosystem.
This notable technological development underscores the accelerated pace of digital transformation across key sectors of the global knowledge economy. Organizations capable of adapting swiftly to these technological shifts will capture significant strategic advantages in their respective markets. Ultimately, this milestone signals a dynamic phase of technological advancement that warrants close observation by industry professionals.
